Biography
I am retired from working as a historic building consultant and conservator. I worked mainly on timber framed buildings in Kent and Sussex. Now researching Anglo-Saxon and Viking woodworking and studying medieval carpentry, I have published the following articles: Carpenter's knowledge in setting out roof and buildings without the use of geometry and numerical measurement (published in Vernacular Architecture, 2020, Vol. 51, pp 30-49); St Helens Saxon Church Revisited, Hastings, East Sussex (published by Hastings Area Archaeological Research Group, 2020, Vol. 40). I have completed a paper on the Anglo-Saxon door at Westminster Abbey, to be published in Regional Furniture.
I am continuing my research and writing the following papers: Greensted Church in Essex Revisited; Part II Carpenters' Knowledge, Cruck Buildings; and Part III Carpenters' Knowledge, Archaic Buildings.
