Biography

I'm a radio producer and sound artist. Over 25 years I've worked extensively with people on both sides of prison walls in the UK, and with marginalised communities affected by homelessness, addiction, prejudice, poverty and mental ill health.

My Fellowship focused on reducing reoffending. I wanted to find out why other countries seemed to have more success than we do in ensuring that people being released from prison aren't sent back to prison.

I'd worked in UK prison radio for several years, and I kept seeing the same faces returning to jail. I knew their reasons for returning were varied and complex but I was sure that if we considered alternative approaches we might find some good ideas. As a result of my Fellowship, I've been able to examine some of these issues in more depth within my radio programmes and podcasts.

Through training and mentorship I'm also continuing to encourage and support a wide range of people in the UK who might find traditional routes into audio production to be inaccessible. It's vital that people are able to tell their own stories and that barriers to their doing so are removed.
