Soil management for sustainable food production and environmental protection
Protecting the environment through improved soil management and organic farming
2017
I am an organic farming adviser working in the UK and elsewhere, specialising in farm systems and business management, environmental impact, organic conversion and husbandry.
My Fellowship provided me with the opportunity to study and meet people in the USA and around Europe who have developed alternative methods of soil analysis and management. Subsequently I have spoken at several conferences, run training workshops, provided on-farm advice, published papers and instigated an EU-funded research project on soil management strategies.
The Fellowship opened doors and provided me with an otherwise impossible opportunity to explore one of the most important and fundamental questions facing the human race – how to produce quality food efficiently, with minimal resource use and low environmental impact.
