Rehearsal, language and performance techniques of opera
Improving operatic performance by observing rehearsals at opera festivals
2007
Currently based in France, I am a chef de choeur for the children's choir of Paris National Opera. My work as a choral director and vocal coach has seen me work with the choeur de l'Orchestre de Paris, the Maitrise de Notre-Dame de Paris, and the Conservatoire de Versailles. My Fellowship of 2007 was based on the research of rehearsal, language and performance techniques of opera.
In 2007 I was appointed rehearsal pianist and vocal coach at Cologne Opera, Germany. In 2009 I studied opera conducting at Verona Opera Academy, Italy and in 2011 I moved to France where I have developed a career as a chorus director. In France I founded the chamber music group Ensemble 1904, performing French and British forgotten repertoire from the beginning of the 20th century. The latest recording of Ensemble 1904, Poldowski Reimagined, received glowing reviews from both the British and French press. Ensemble 1904 performs throughout Europe.
In some ways my Fellowship has never ended: I continue to explore and discover Europe, building partnerships with British artists and institutions – an issue even more important today than it was in 2007. In 2018 I became a French citizen.
