Broadening the use of digital technology for children and young people with sensory impairments
2016
I am Head of Education at the Royal National Institute of Blind People and my work focuses on education, digital technology and sensory impairment. The purpose of my Fellowship was to look at how to maximise and innovate the usage of digital technology with children and young people with vision impairment or multi-sensory impairment.
Technology is a vital component and area of skill development for young people with a sensory impairment in order to improve their independence and fully access the world around them. Many areas of technology are not used to their maximum potential and my Fellowship was undertaken to discover new ways of using existing technologies for bigger and better impact.
Following my Fellowship, I have continued to be an advocate for use of technology. I have delivered a range of training packages to professionals and developed new resources.
