The management and treatment of anger
I work as the Creative Founder of New Leaf Life Design, a workplace wellbeing company founded in 1992 and now operating as a 'Next Stage Organisation'.
In 2004 I was granted a Churchill Fellowship looking at working with anger. I was interested in the US approach versus the UK approach of working with perpetrators of domestic abuse.
The purpose of my Fellowship was to gain knowledge into how other individuals and organisations work with anger, to see how a country's value system, cultural beliefs and experiences shape programmes to end domestic violence, and to develop a holistic approach to working with anger and violence.
I was interested in this work, having served many years working in HMP Shepton Mallet holding anger management classes, and for the local probation service. In the USA at the time the work was very shame-based, whereas in the UK we worked on a personal growth approach to recovery and treatment.
As a result of the training I have developed my work around working with anger, which resulted in an MSc in Counselling Research where I studied Mind, Body and Spiritual Approaches to working with anger.
