June 2023 Fellow's update: Gavin McKinnon

Chief Officer of Kent Special Constabulary, Gavin McKinnon, has been awarded an OBE in HM The King’s first Birthday Honours List. The award was given in recognition of his work to transform Kent Police’s Special Constabulary. Gavin has overseen many national firsts including Special Constables fully qualifying as accredited detectives, police driving and public order instructors, and Special Branch examiners under the Terrorism Act. Gavin's Fellowship focused on getting the best for communities from volunteer police officers by reviewing volunteer policing in North America.

June 2023 Fellow's update: Joy O'Neill

Inclusion Expert, Joy O'Neill (CF 2020), has been asked to be part of an international working group looking at developing international minimum standards for researchers when working with animals in Animal Assisted Interventions settings i.e care farms or animal therapy sessions. The working group and associated project are being run by IAHAIO (International Association of Human Animal Interactions Organisations). Joy has been selected for the 2023/24 Climate Outreach Climate Ambassadors Programme. The programme offers focused training and support for climate scientists and other experts to enable them to talk with wider audiences about climate change and related topics.

May 2023 Fellow's update: Dave Grimstead

Co-founder and Chief Executive of Locate, Dave Grimstead (CF 2020) featured in The Guardian in an article about an unidentified woman who jumped from Wembly Point in 2004. Dave is a former police officer and uses his skills and experience with Locate to examine cold cases of missing people and unidentified bodies. Another Churchill Fellow, Emma Tilley (CF 2020) has volunteered with Locate and she is also mentioned in the article.

May 2023 Fellow's update: Neil Jameson

We are sad to report the death of Churchill Fellow, Neil Jameson (CF 1977). Neil's Fellowship focused on self-help initiatives within disadvantaged urban communities to prevent vandalism. As part of his Fellowship he visited the US to explore the legacy of the Chicago-based activist Saul Alinsky. He was the founder of Citizens UK and a driving force behind the Living Wage campaign.
