The Role of Local Communities in Reducing Reoffending
Exploring the role of local communities in reducing reoffending
2024
I am Head of Community Justice at His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service, where I am involved in developing more community focused ways of working. This includes leading Grand Avenues, a ten-year reducing reoffending pilot in Cardiff.
I have a longstanding interest in (and passion for) community development and in both a professional and voluntary capacity have led a diverse range of initiatives across England and Wales, spanning neighbourhood regeneration, infrastructure in rural communities, trade justice, combating human trafficking, education and youth work. I am particularly interested in how we design our public services to allow more community focused ways of working to flourish and what that means for things like policy development, procurement, governance and evaluation.
As part of my Fellowship, I will spend time in the USA with community builders, academics, policymakers and other inspirational people advocating for community-driven approaches to complex social challenges, particularly reoffending.
