Biography
My 2002 Fellowship enabled me to travel to the Himalayas for the first time and trek to Everest Base Camp to promote recovery from a diagnosis of schizophrenia. The aim was to try to help inspire those who have suffered with mental ill health to believe a meaningful life can be regained, with the promotion of exercise and the importance of being amongst nature to aid recovery.
My first journey to Everest was symbolic of overcoming my own personal struggle and also with the purpose to try and highlight the unfair stigma towards mental illness, experienced not only from society but also from mental health professionals.
I have worked closely with the media at both national and local levels over the years, promoting a deeper understanding into psychosis and recovery and also promoting positive mental health. I have been involved with the charity sector and worked very closely with Time to Change.
Please contact me if you feel I can be of help.
