Biography

I am a doctoral researcher in circular economy business models with an interest in the themes of sustainability, environment and social enterprise.

My Fellowship explored the social circular economy, ie the intersection of circular economy, where resources are kept at their highest value within the economy (think reuse, repair, refurbish), and social enterprise, organisations that provide social benefits through commercial strategies. I believe that value creation from the application of circular economy principles can be used to scale impact via social enterprises and indeed I was lucky enough to meet many examples.

As a result of my Fellowship, I have advised many organisations, for example supporting a global manufacturer to partner with social enterprises to take back and reuse their old products and helping the European umbrella body for reuse and repair social enterprises to understand the measurement of social impact, both aligned to the goal of scaling social and environmental impact. The Fellowship has allowed me to meet wonderful people and opened up new opportunities, including pursuing a PhD to better understand how circular economy business models can be scaled.
