Biography
I am an associate professor at Cardiff University. My Fellowship will focus on the prevention of suicide among children and young people in care. This might include children and young people who live in foster care, kinship care or residential care. There is currently a lack of effective approaches for offering support in the UK.
During the Fellowship I will visit the USA and South Korea, learning about innovative suicide prevention practices. My visits will include spending time with local programme developers, practitioners and researchers. I will also learn how these approaches may best be adapted to meet local needs in the UK context.
Following the Fellowship, I will share my experience with researchers, policymakers and care-experienced children and young people. Through this sharing I hope to strengthen the research and practice community around suicide prevention for those in care. Furthermore, in identifying innovative international approaches, I aim to help practitioners think about how they can best deliver effective practice that supports the reduction of suicide and suicide-related outcomes among children and young people in care in the UK.
