Classification and research of waterbears
My current role at the University of Plymouth is as a Business Analyst, working across the institution to help us work more effectively. I also do some teaching which enables me to promote the Fellowships.
My Fellowship was in the broad theme of science, and I visited three research scientists in China to learn more about their research. It was a two-way exchange of ideas and I still maintain contact with some of the people I met during my visit. Shortly after completing my Fellowship, I had the confidence to apply to complete my PhD by research publications. This involved compiling my publications into a thesis and defending it a viva voce.
As a Fellow with a disability, I have been able to reassure and support other people to apply for their Fellowships.
I continue to promote the Fellowships to people I meet, both within the university and at public events such as the annual Bioblitz, which engages members of the public in recording sightings of species. I also hope to visit Blenheim Palace, in conjunction with the Quekett Microscopical Club, to help survey some of the grounds and inform their future conservation and management plans.
