Treating chronic illness and improving palliative care through digital technology as part of art therapy

I am an art psychotherapist and clinical supervisor specialising in supportive and palliative care.
My Fellowship focused on the ways people living with life-limiting or terminal illness use digital technology for their emotional wellbeing. As a result of my Fellowship, I have networked with practitioners and advised software developers, and am researching and working to build hybrid models of psychotherapeutic support for end-of-life care. In 2019 The Digital Creative Arts Therapies Symposium was established, broadcasting in 3D over 24 hours from six sites across the globe. This virtual community of therapists, artists, educators and researchers presents a new pedagogical model that uses videoconferencing and digital tools to combine in-person and remote experiential gatherings. Learning from this helped me and other colleagues transition our services during Covid-19 restrictions.
The Fellowship has been personally transformative, encouraging me to persevere with an idea ahead of its time. The ongoing support of other Churchill Fellows, along with relationships made through my Fellowship travels, continue to enrich me personally and professionally.
