I am a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist and a Clinical Director for Specialist Medicine at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (RMCH), which is one of the largest dedicated children's hospitals in the UK and Europe. I am also the clinical lead for paediatric obesity at RMCH and have developed a Tier 3 complex paediatric obesity service in Manchester, to help the most severely affected children with unhealthy weight.
At national level, I have been involved in developing obesity guidelines for the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and am actively involved in research in obesity, hyperinsulinism, diabetes, skeletal disorders and DSD.
I have a real passion to see children across the UK growing and developing at a healthy weight so that they can lead active lives that are free of problems. This led me to applying for the Churchill Fellowship to travel, to learn and harness strategies for the management of complex childhood obesity at two of the world's best expert centres, Boston and Cincinnati children's hospitals, in order to return and inspire practice in the UK.
