I am the Medicine Division Lead and Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), and integrated care system (ICS) ACP Project Lead at Nottinghamshire Alliance Training Hub.
In 2017, as NUH developed the ACP workforce, evidence further afield was sought in terms of how other organisations, in the USA, evidenced the impact of the ACP role on the quality of patient care and patient outcomes within their organisation, and also how they evidenced return on investment (ROI) (eg evidence of financial viability, impact of investment of the ACP role, cost benefits).
In addition to this information, the Fellowship visits identified the importance of robust organisational career and governance frameworks, established long-lasting personal and professional links, and developed opportunities for personal development and reflection (eg solo travelling, presentation skills, personal confidence, raised awareness of healthcare systems abroad).
This Fellowship informed the organisation, and further afield, leading to the development of more structured career and governance frameworks, and international networking within the ACP community where we are sharing our learning and best practice.
