Biography
I am currently a conductor of choirs at the Royal College of Music Junior Department and also work as a freelance choral conductor and lecturer. I have recently represented the IFCM (the International Federation of Choral Music) as a member of the Artistic Committee for the World Youth Choir and am a member of the World Choir Council for Interkultur.
My Fellowship investigated 'The process of choral education and choral conducting in Sweden' and gave me the opportunity to meet and observe world-renowned choral conductors and choir educators. Sweden has long been recognised as a place of excellence for choirs and I was interested to explore the process of their choral education.
This experience has led to many international contacts within the field of choral music and as a consequence I incorporate Scandinavian repertoire and pedagogical approaches into my work in the UK. I found particularly that new music and the idea of 'giving new music a chance' was something that permeated much choral work in Sweden. This has strongly influenced the way that I work with young composers today and the projects I create.
