A cradle to college vision for low-income communities
Implementing early interventions for disadvantaged communities to succeed at school and reach higher education
2017
In 2008 I founded The Reach Foundation, a charity set up to address educational disadvantage, where I am currently the chair of trustees. We are developing a cradle-to-career model for local children and families around the school I co-founded in 2012, Reach Academy Feltham. We aspire to spread our cradle-to-career model nationally.
My Churchill Fellowship visits to the USA and Finland, undertaken in 2019, were designed to develop our thinking around cradle-to-career work and its potential for positive change in the UK.
In recent years I also partnered with two film-makers, who were looking for a setting to make a film on the subject of educational disadvantage, to found Mercurial Pictures Ltd and produce H is for Harry, a documentary which was released in 2018-2019.
I set up my first company, Reach Cambridge Ltd, in 2004 to run summer schools and study-abroad experiences for international students. In 2007-2008 I spent a year at McGill University studying social entrepreneurship.
As a Churchill Fellow and a Sauvé Fellow, I believe in lifelong learning and have focused my time on the transformative potential of education, travel and storytelling.
