Combating declining voter turnout: adapting best practices from Nordic countries
I am Director at Omanos Analytics. My 2014 Fellowship (Combating Declining Voter Turnout: Adapting Best Practices from Nordic Countries) played an absolutely crucial role in shaping my approach to questions of public participation, government accountability and tech-enabled democratic process – how community empowerment can be effectively deployed for good governance and how technology can support that.
Following my Fellowship, particularly in the wake of scandals around misuse of voter campaign funds, I was inspired to take my findings in a new direction. I wanted to use technology and data to elevate community voices, merging community narratives with robust data analysis to drive good governance.
After a stint working to build community participation via digital media (focusing on the former USSR), that original interest led me to found Omanos Analytics, a space tech social enterprise focusing on using satellite imagery analysis to support local communities across the globe. We're now a team of four, and have delivered work for the UK Space Agency, the European Space Agency and various international NGOs.
