I am the Artistic Director of Chaturangan, a leading organisation promoting dance and ageing. I am a performer and a facilitator specialising in the use of south Asian dance and music for the care of older people in the community. In 2006 Chaturangan organised Marks of Time, an international conference on dance and ageing. The experience from the conference inspired me to develop better skills and experience in this field of work.
In 2013 I went to Canada to explore the role of culturally diverse art for the health and wellbeing of the seniors in the country.
Chaturangan's different initiatives have again and again shown how south Asian dance and music uplifts the spirit of older people in society, irrespective of their cultural background.
The Fellowship has given me a better understanding of my field and confidence to create memorable experiences from care homes to art centres. It has been a driving force for producing the dementia-friendly performance Fleeting Moments, and the immersive installation Do not Fold Your Wings.
I am one of the artists featured in the Baring Foundation's publication Artists in our Time.
