I am Emeritus Professor at Trinity St David, University of Wales.
My Fellowship topic in 1992 was coastal and marine conservation in Australia and New Zealand. The purpose was to see how this was carried out in these outstanding countries and absorb information that would be of use to the UK. I was teaching and researching this topic at several universities and the Fellowship was a great chance to glean information from the top professionals in the world.
I have been able to teach intensive courses on many aspects of coastal conservation and management in several countries, including North Cyprus, Malta, Turkey and Spain, aimed at middle managers, one of whom went on to become an MP. Many of my graduate students went into environmental jobs. Several books, countless academic papers and a few TV programmes have also been undertaken.
In the general community, I have worked with Glamorgan Heritage Coast personnel in undertaking any research needed. I also trained more than 100 youngsters in this field, under the old Manpower Service Scheme.
