Burglary: a crime scene investigator's perspective
2014
South West
I am a crime scene investigator working with the UK police and I have a particular interest in burglary investigation. My Fellowship research identified that there were ways that we could learn from other police forces with differing crime profiles and problems and bring this knowledge back to the UK to improve our own service.
I have been involved in crime scene investigation for more than two decades and have always been passionate about burglary investigation as I have witnessed at first hand the impact this crime has upon its victims.
I knew that scientific methods could provide easy identification of the perpetrators of this crime and I wanted to find out about the innovative ways that others were bringing offenders to justice.
My Fellowship took me to Australia and New Zealand where I saw the investigation process from the perspective of research undertaken by universities, frontline police officers, crime scene investigators, other investigators and scientists.
