Launch of 'A Whole Society Blueprint for Suicide Prevention'

"Together, the insights from our Fellows form a whole society blueprint for suicide prevention. One that is caring, connected, and accountable." – Julia Weston, Chief Executive, Churchill Fellowship

Every suicide is a devastating human loss, felt deeply by families, friends, communities, and colleagues. Behind every statistic is a person, a story, and a reminder that more can and must be done.

The Churchill Fellowship’s Suicide Prevention Programme was launched in 2019, with generous support from The John Armitage Charitable Trust and in partnership with Samaritans as our Knowledge Partner.

The final report, A Whole Society Blueprint for Suicide Prevention, brings together global learning, lived experience, and insight from Churchill Fellows working across suicide prevention between 2019 and 2023.

Drawing on learning from around the world, the report shows that suicide prevention is not the responsibility of one service or sector alone. Across healthcare, education, policing, workplaces, and communities, Fellows highlight practical ways we can build systems that are safer, more connected, and more compassionate.

The report features ideas and recommendations from 28 Fellows, with learning across healthcare, education, policing, prisons, domestic abuse, asylum systems, bereavement, community settings, media, and public spaces.

It is intended as a practical resource for policymakers, commissioners, healthcare leaders, educators, employers, community and voluntary organisations, media professionals, communicators, and anyone working to prevent suicide across the UK.
