August 2026 Fellows' update: Peter Campbell

Peter Campbell (CF 1999) was awarded the BEM for Services to Gaelic and Scottish Culture The award recognises and celebrates the more than six decades of unwavering service that Peter has given to the Gaelic community in Stirling and beyond.

The investiture took place on Friday 31st July 2026 at The Argyle and Sutherland Highland Regimental Museum at Stirling Castle by Colonel Charles (Charlie) Wallace, Lord Lieutenant of Stirling and Falkirk accompanied by cadets representing the armed forces.

Perhaps one of Peter’s most lasting achievements came during the 1980s when Gaelic education was absent from Stirlingshire schools. Refusing to accept this, he led a delegation to meet the Director of Education, advocating for Gaelic to be introduced into the curriculum. Their efforts were successful, resulting in the first provision for Gaelic learning at McLaren High School in Callander—an important milestone for future generations of Gaelic speakers.
