Biography

I am a counsellor and focusing-oriented psychotherapist.

My Fellowship looked into ways to engage disaffected young people. I travelled to New Zealand and Australia, looking specifically at Project K in New Zealand and how Sean Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens was being used in Glengarry, Kangaroo Valley, Australia.

As a learning coach at that time I was impressed with the success of Project K and hoped it could be replicated in the UK. My work over many years with disengaged and disaffected young people prompted me to search for successful ways to help engage and encourage them. The mentoring aspect of Project K, as well as the mentoring offered at Glengarry, was outstanding and by far the greatest contributor to their success.

On returning home I got involved in mentoring and student assistance programmes, and also began training in counselling and psychotherapy. My work as a school-based counsellor and my interest in helping young people achieve their potential led me to study focusing-oriented psychotherapy at the University of East Anglia, where I also did my MA.

The Churchill Fellowship was a springboard to my own self-development. It was also the foundation for the work I continue to do.
