Biography

I am the Founder and Managing Director of the multi-award-winning international tourism consultancy Stevens and Associates. Established in 1986, the company has now worked on all kinds of tourism development projects in 55 countries. Clients have included international development agencies, national, regional and local tourist organisations, and many private businesses. In 2019 and 2020, I was awarded the LUXLife International Tourist Destination Development Expert of the year. In 2020, I received the highest honour for contributions to tourism by the Government of Slovenia, and also by the Lord Mayor of Swansea.

In 2020, I published five books on tourism development, most notably Wish You Were Here: The Stories Behind 50 of the World's Great Destinations. I am currently a Trustee of the Coker and Canvas Trust, which has restored Dawes Twine Works in West Coker in Somerset as the only working Victorian twine works in the country.

My Fellowship, over 40 years ago, gave me a great understanding of sustainable tourism development long before it became mainstream. As a result, I have always tried to apply those principles in the work I have undertaken.

The Fellowship provided my foundation stone.
