Biography

I currently work for a local authority as a strategic domestic abuse manager and have held previous roles in public sector consulting, domestic abuse and parliament.

My Fellowship was researching themes associated with youth violence, gangs, domestic abuse and violence against women. The purpose of the Fellowship was to better understand how we identify and support women and girls associated with gangs.

My interest began when I was a councillor in the London Borough of Southwark. I represented an area that had an increase in young people involved in street violence, particularly knife crime. We were also a borough with high rates of reported domestic abuse. After witnessing a young man being stabbed, I got more involved in our local response. As I got more involved, I realised that nobody was discussing the women and girls in these boys' lives.

Girls, Gangs and their Abusive Relationships was launched in City Hall in 2019 – since then it has been highlighted by the Mayor Sadiq Khan, discussed on BBC Women's Hour and used by professionals in the sector. It was an incredible opportunity that has shaped my career and influenced the conversation on youth violence.
