Biography

I am a writer, curator and cultural historian based in London, UK and Sharjah, UAE, and a FRSA. My Fellowship in 2011 took me to Egypt, Lebanon and Palestine, where I spent my time exploring regional cultural infrastructure. The research laid the foundation for my doctoral research.

I am Director of Collections and Senior Curator at Sharjah Art Foundation, an agency of the Government of Sharjah, UAE. Prior to this, I held senior leadership roles at some of the world's leading museums including MCA Chicago, Tate and Whitechapel Gallery, London.

At the core of what I do is exploratory research, publishing and exhibition making, which seeks to consider how emerging technologies, specifically the internet, has affected the ways in which we engage with gender, sexuality, race and colonial histories. I have explored these concerns through over 100 exhibitions staged on six continents and through more than 31 authored and co-authored books, which have been translated into 12 languages.

I am keen to collaborate through debate, by sharing information and experiences, and via commission, consultancy and publishing projects.
