Biography

I am the founder and director of a mentoring and coaching community organisation that delivers school empowerment programmes, employability and mental health support for young women. I have worked with a wide range of charities, which has allowed me to travel internationally Ð to Germany, Malawi and Uganda.

My Fellowship aims to explore how Black girls' mental health is perceived within the Black diaspora, particularly in relation to anxiety and depression. This project aims to use the learning acquired to develop an accessible, culturally competent mental health resource for Black girls, as well as developing training material which will help to inform the best practice to support and understand the mental health needs of Black girls from the African and Caribbean diaspora.

By centring Black girls' experiences, I hope to see an increase in the number of Black girls receiving appropriate and effective mental health support. I intend to use the learning from three countries to begin to better understand culture in relation to Black girls and their mental health needs. I hope to contribute to providing effective prevention tools which are grounded in understanding Black girls' experiences.
