I am currently the Director of Education for The Careers & Enterprise Company, the national body for careers education in England. I was formerly a secondary school headteacher.
My Fellowship focus is the exploration of innovation and differentiation in the field of work experience for students, as policy in England develops to enable young people to access more high-quality experiences of workplaces as part of their journey through school and college. The aim of the research is threefold: informing transformative practice and curriculum design, exploring how accredited models of 'work studies' may contribute to enhanced learner agency and workplace currency, and exploring whether civic and community linked approaches to work experience enhance a sense of belonging and consequently skills and engagement for specific groups of learners.
I am driven by enabling work experience policy and practice which secures equity of access for all young people, ensuring innovation and creative curriculum design supports learner engagement in a purposeful education, and flexible employer access to support. I aim to inspire education leaders and inform policy and practice in the UK.
