Conserving film, sound and photography by studying preservation methods in archives and education centres
2006
I am Director of LF Conservation and Preservation.
My Fellowship was on the conservation and preservation of film, sound and photography. I travelled to the USA to look at how to care for these materials. I am interested in the care of cultural heritage because I am an accredited conservator. My career has been spent making sure that our cultural knowledge and items survive for us and for future generations to enjoy and use.
My Fellowship has been of great benefit to the cultural heritage sector and the community. I have used the knowledge and skills gained to train and advise both institutions and individuals on how to care for their film, sound and photographic materials. It has been wonderful to use the examples of historic photographic materials that I put together during my Fellowship during the training I have provided. I have written blogs and made videos (available online) to spread the word on how to care for photographic material.
My Fellowship meant a great deal to me, and continues to. It enabled me to gain skills and knowledge (and a teaching collection) in an area of conservation and preservation where I have a great passion, and to pass this on.
