Investigate DADAA approaches and use new skills in the UK
I work as a carers outreach project worker for Sheffield Mencap, which involves setting up a new project for unpaid carers and cared-for adults with learning differences. I will also be studying on a full-time ten-month PGCE in primary special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
My Fellowship investigated an arts and health organisation in Western Australia, DADAA, examining their approaches to arts engagement by shadowing projects, managers and workshop leaders, gaining insight into larger projects that worked with communities from all demographics.
The Fellowship gave me confidence to develop new projects including curating art and museum exhibitions and designing practical workshops that met the learning needs of children, young people and adults with learning disabilities or autism. I also developed a three-year music and physical theatre project between communities in Australia and the UK. I have set up a performance leadership programme for adults and their carers in Sheffield.
I feel privileged to had been awarded this Fellowship which has benefited my approach in the UK arts and disability sector.
