Protecting people and our natural environment from climate change through law
Researching climate change litigation strategies
2025
I am a barrister specialising in environmental, regulatory and public law. I have been granted a Fellowship to travel to Geneva, Switzerland to research climate change litigation. I will learn from international environmental law experts at the many NGOs pursuing environmental litigation who are based in Geneva. I want to build novel cases and change legal precedents so the UK courts better protect people and our natural environment from climate change.
Vulnerable communities face harsher climate risks and greater barriers in bringing a case to court. I will use my legal skills to improve the representation of UK communities who are affected by climate change and those who would otherwise struggle to bring their case to court. Their representation will improve the social inequalities in how climate change affects different people.
My experience ranges from prosecuting and defending jury trials to running a global legal reform campaign and sitting on the board of a national charity. I am delighted at this opportunity to travel to Geneva, an essential locus for advancing environmental law, where I can learn from environmental lawyers and bring strategies home.
