I am the Publisher and Editor of Helicopter International and HeliData News and Classified magazines and also the founder and chairman of The Helicopter Museum, the world's largest rotary wing collection, based at Weston-super-Mare. I have been writing about and collecting helicopters since 1969 and hold a number of lifetime achievement and other awards from various aviation-related organisations.
My Fellowship was to study the Russian helicopter industry at a time in the early 1990s when access to the factories and personnel was only just being opened up to Westerners. It was extremely successful, creating lifelong friendships and resulting in repeated visits over the following years to assemble articles, fly Russian designs and join in their helicopter sporting activities as a member of the FAI Rotorcraft Commission.
It is really impossible to lay out all the benefits I accrued from my Fellowship and my long involvement in the helicopter industry. Suffice to say that I have been fortunate to have a job which is also a hobby and a hobby for which I get paid!
